Wytchmourne has disbanded.
Wytchmourne is a dark fantasy world filled with strange and brutal creatures, twisted magic and political intrigue. There are many nations struggling for control of limited space and natural resources. This coupled with a long history of hate and xenophobia always gives people something to fight about. There is a consistent record of history shared between all the nations of Wytchmourne dating back to the Cataclysm 200 years ago. Things before that fall into a foggy antiquity whose details can never be agreed upon. The only thing never disputed is that it was a good time, spoken of with longing and regret.
The world now shifts between uneasy peace and all out war. The empire of Viaticus sits on the western coast fueled by technology and commerce. They are a merchant state ruled by guilds and noble houses. To the north is a savage wilderness whose only inhabitants are tribes collectively known by others as the Wylde. They are a proud and stalwart people but are torn apart by clan warfare. It is said that among their numbers are the greatest warriors the world has yet seen. Their inner conflict and a lack of a singular government is the only reason they have as little political sway as they do.
Between Viaticus and the Wylde lands is a great forest deeper by far then its borders should allow. Here are the lands of the Fair Folk, the keepers of ancient secrets and heralds to a time long passed. To outsiders their ways often seem nonsensical and frivolous but they were a people devoid of time until the cataclysm stripped away their immortality. In recent days they have become increasingly reclusive and paranoid of their own potential for death. Most of the Fey rarely leave the great forest except to keep a wary eye on their borders.Far to the east a darkness has grown. Long hidden behind the snow capped peeks of the Bastion dwell the cursed souls of a fallen empire. Lor once stood as a triumph of technology and culture poised on the brink of unlocking universal truths about the nature of existence. It is said that the gods stripped them of their lives as punishment for their arrogance and pride. They now exist in the shattered cities of Lor, a mockery of their former splendor.
In these turbulent times entire societies have been overthrown, forced into exiled or outright destroyed. A nomadic warrior race once roamed the entirety of the great desert known as the dustlands. They once had many clans and many names but when the undead began their march they were all but eradicated. Now known only as the Dustlanders, they skirt by on the fringes of the world, striking back at the undead with disorganized guerrilla warfare. The Romani wander with no known political affiliation save a fierce loyalty to their own clan. Gypsies prophets, they are entrenched in the ways of ether, and it is said that if any who know how the world will end it is the Romani.
Before the cataclysm the Nix were rulers of the fey but have since been dethroned and outcast, never to return to the forests of their homeland. They now live in Bloodthorne grove, a forest to the south of Viaticus. The Nix attest that their leadership was stolen by an unjustified coup but the elves say it was because of their bizarre manipulation of magic and complete disregard for humanity. The Grox are a testament to the experimentation of the Nix. Once a lesser fey the Grox were enslaved by the Nix and twisted into beasts of burden and living war machines. They rebelled and escaped from shortly after the Nix were exiled. They now live in the Northern part of the Bastion mountain range and have an uneasy truce with the Wylde.
There are many lesser fey who hold little or no political sway and range from the mysterious Will o’ Wisps to the often predatory Thrall. Most never leave the Fey lands but a brave few interact with the world at large. The most predominant of these lesser fey are the Faceless.
The severed were born to fey parents but are completely devoid of magic. They not only are unable to cast magic, many are entirely immune to magic. They are universally shunned from fey society and are either killed at birth or raised outside the great forests. Whether due to their very existence as a magical void or their lack of belonging in the world, the severed are often antisocial and have a high rate of mental illness.
